profiling audience
The Source provides a uniquely diverse audience that cuts across all
lines. Regardless of sex and race, The Source captures the attention of
Hip-Hop fans period.
This includes:
• Aspirational readers from urban inner cities
• Readers in the suburbs seeking relevance
• International readers that enjoy the freedom of expression showcased and
covered on a monthly basis.
Our readers are all motivated and driven by the same passion and
creativity that has made Hip-Hop the multi-billion dollar culture and
business that it is today. Our multi-generational (primarily 18 –44 year
olds) audience has consistently proven to be:
Our readership is full of leaders in their respective professions and
motivated self-starters that are being groomed for future success.
The Source readers are at least three times more likely than the
average consumer to spend money on:
Put simply, The Source’s
readers are the trendsetting, cutting-edge
individuals you are trying to reach!
• Fashion Accessories
• Snack Foods
• Movies, Video Games
• Automobiles
• Tailored Clothing
• Athletic Shoes
• Grooming Products
• Pay-Per-View (WWE, Boxing)
I can assume that the same type of audience that read the source magazine which is ages 18-44 will be around about the same type of audience that will read mine, however my music magazine will be aimed at a wider range starting from 16. This is because from around that age people are becoming more mature, and are exposed to certain words, for example Shit, F** & Bastard so therefore they will not make a big deal about it when they see it. To make their magazine to appeal to a wide range of people they also incude upcoming movies and video games, snack foods etc, so i think i would also use this technique to appeal to a wider range aswell. The way the source magazine organises their front cover with the masthead at the top and a photo of the artist with writing around it, is very good, so i believe i will also use this way to appeal to my audience.

When i asked this question, an equal amount of people said that images and phrases are the things which interests them to music magazines. I believe that this helps me an i will take it into consideration when making my magazine. Goodies and sloans was also high so i think that to make my magazine very good i will try and use all of these points
When i asked, the majority of people said that they would like to find an interview in a music magazine, so therefore this is something i would definatly include in magazine. As we need to also do a double page spread, so i think i would use the interview on one side and then a poster of the artist being interviewed on the other side. The next highest was gossip and agony aunts so those are something i would take into account. I wil not include news/info and other games as nobody really said they would like those to be included
The majority of people i ased said that their price limit for a music magazine is £0.50p-£1.50, so therefore if i wore to sell my music magazine then i would set it at between this price. Then £1.51-£2.50 was the next highest so i think that if i was actually going to sell my music magazine i would set it at £1.50 as it seems reasonable. Nobody said that they will pay more than £2.51 so that means i will not price it as high as that.
When asked this question, the majority of them said that the contents page should include images, so therefore, my music magazine contents page will have not also writing but images to include. i would use images that gave them a preview of what they will find inside themagazine. i will not make it simple as this will not attract much of my targeted audience.
When analysing this graph it shows me that the majority of people asked said they would like to get a poster free with the magazine, this shows me that one of the best ways to attract my targeterd audience to my music magazine is to include free posters with them so my audience will be able to rip them out and stick them own their walls. Cd's was then the next common promotion feauture that they would like this is something that i may need to include aswell in ordeer to get their attention. As you can see a calender was next then vouchers, then stickers. This helps me as it shows me that in order for my magazine to sell i would need to put posters or cds to attract them.
I asked this question, so i know what music genre i would base my magazine on. When i got the questionnaire back i saw that the majority of people asked said the our interested in the hip-hop genre most which means that when i do my music magazine the main genre i would use is hip-hop. Howver funky music was the next best genre that they were interested in so i think that instead of jus t basing it on hip-hop i would base it on a bit of funky house too. Rock then came third, pop forth and slow jamz fifth so i know that people are not interested in these types of music so therefore i may not include it into my music magazine.Wednesday, 6 January 2010
HAND DRAWN DRAFT OF MUSIC MAGAZINE
These are hand drawn drafts of how I would like my magazine to turn out. I have included the front cover, contents page and template of double page spread. It is im portant to include some drafts so that you have an rough idea of how the magazine could turn out, and so that you have a range of ideas to choose from, so the magazine can come out properly.
